Common Cold Treatment – Boost Your Immunity

About Common Cold

Common cold is a very common disease and it is not usually harmful also.  Frequency of attack of this disease is based on the immunity power of our body.  Since there is not any practical cure for common cold, it is wise to boost the immunity power of our body against common cold and flu.

There are over 200 viruses that can actually cause a cold. These viruses will run a course of 1-2 weeks and leave the system without causing any serious health risks or issues.  In some cases, there are complications and the cold sufferers will end up in developing bronchitis, ear infections, pneumonia, sinus infections, or asthma.  Beyond these health conditions, there is no real danger in getting a cold.  After a week or two, the cold will subside and the recovery process will begin.

  • Drinking plenty of fluids is good to ease the discomforts of the common cold. Water is the best fluid and it helps to lubricate the mucous membranes.

  • Spicy foods that contain hot peppers or horseradish may help clear sinuses.
  • Foods rich in vitamins A and C (oranges, kiwi, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, spinach, and broccoli) are widely recommended.
  • Aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil), or acetaminophen (Tylenol) is usually recommended as medications.
  • Nasal strips are used to open the nasal passages and ease congestion due to a cold or sinusitis.
  • Nasal-delivery decongestants are applied directly into the nasal passages with a spray, gel, drops, or vapours.

Avoid combinations of oral decongestants with alcohol or certain drugs such as monoamine oxidize inhibitors and sedatives. Sore throats that are associated with colds are generally mild. The following may be helpful:

  • Cough drops, throat sprays, or gargling warm salt water may help relieve sore throat and reduce coughing.
  • Throat sprays that contain phenol (for example, Vicks Chloraseptic) may be particularly helpful. Cough drops that contain menthol may soothe a mild sore throat.
Patients who are attacked by the common cold frequently should enhance their immunity power considerably.  Body should have the enough strength to withstand the attack of cold viruses.  Vitamin C will help you to resist common cold attack.  Foods containing vitamin C or vitamin C tablets (only with doctor’s advice) will become helpful in this case.
