Low Blood Pressure – Cure by Yoga

What is Low Blood Pressure?

Blood pressure is the pressure that makes on the walls of blood vessels while blood is circulating all over the body. A pressure of 120/80 millimeters of mercury (mm Hg) is now considering normal and optimal for good health. If the reading is 90/60 or lower, then it is considered as low blood pressure. The medical term for low BP is hypotension. Hypotension can be serious and it should be taken care of immediately.  Having low blood pressure can affect the brain resulting in more problems that can not be fixed or even fatal.

What is the Cause of Low Blood Pressure?

The most known reason for having hypotension is decreased blood volume and that is known as hypovolemia.  Hypovolemia is the decrease in the volume of blood in the body, which can be due to blood loss or loss of body fluids. Blood loss can result from external injuries, internal bleeding, or certain obstetric emergencies.  Side effects of some medicines can also be the reason for the hypovolemia.

Different Types of Hypotension

Orthostatic hypotension (also known as postural hypotension) and is one of the more common forms of low blood pressure.  It can occur because of a change in the body’s position.  Standing up from a sitting position or lying down position can briefly lower the blood flow in the body causing hypotension and this is an example of orthostatic hypotension.  Orthostatic hypotension symptoms include feeling lightheaded or dizzy after standing up, blurry vision, weakness, fainting and nausea.

Another form of hypotension that is less common than orthostatic hypotension is known postprandial hypotension and this will occur after a meal.  Dizziness, light-headedness, and falls may occur. When blood flows to the intestine after a meal, the heart rate increases and blood vessels in other parts of the body constrict to maintain blood pressure. Blood flows normally to the intestine, but the heart rate does not increase adequately and blood vessels do not constrict enough to maintain blood pressure. As a result, blood pressure falls.

Low Pressure Treatment

Hypotension is just as severe as hypertension. However they are both cause for concern and should be consulted with a doctor immediately. Having low blood pressure could affect the brain, so immediate medical attention is very necessary.

Regular exercises, in addition to the medicine intake, are very necessary for getting relief from low blood pressure.  Yoga practice is a one of the best form of exercise for blood pressure patients, especially for those who are old and sick.
